By Ellen Cannon Reed
I found this book to be a wonderful glimpse into the world of a Traditionalist who absolutely loves the path she has chosen. Ms. Reed is quick to point out that her Wicca is not "popular", that it's not for everyone, and that those few for whom it is sacred have a special calling: to be Preservers of the Path. While many of the happy-go-lucky white light "wiccans" out there will find this personal vision less than inclusive, and possibly downright offensive, Traditionalists can rejoice, for this is the voice calling out in the wilderness.
The Heart of Wicca presents a Wicca more meaningful than spells and fancy names, much deeper than Sabbat parties and coven clubs. This is the way Wicca was meant to be: an inititatory experience.
Weighing in at just over 130 pages, The Heart of Wicca is a short and easy read, and enlightening on many levels. Its minor shortcoming is that the tone and apparent audience seems to shift throughout the book: one moment the author is lecturing fluffybunnies, the next, she appears to be adressing students in her own coven. However, this does not damage the material at all, and I highly recommend this book to anyone considering persuing Traditional or coven training.
